CONNECTING SCHOOLS
Connecting classrooms is an inititive by the British Council that connects clusters of three British schools with clusters of three schools from two sub-Saharan countries. This inititive is for a three year duration and involves the nin schools undertaking common projects.
The name of our project is Flourishing Flowers and Carrickfergus Grammar School, Carrickfergus College and Downshire Community School form our cluster and we have linked with three schools in Nigeria and three in Zimbabwe.
Our project will cover topics in various areas of the curriculum but especially those of Art and Design, Mathematics, Geography and Learning for Life and Work.
The teachers involved communicate by e-mail and most of the monies given by the British Council have been used to ensure that all the six African schools are connected to the Internet.
Carrickfergus College facilitated a video conference between the participants and our school have donated videoconferencing equipment to the Nigerian and Zimbabwean Schools. We hope to start a regular videoconference link with the classrooms in Africa – watch this space!
