INTERTNATIONAL SCHOOL AWARD

LogoWe were delighted to receive news at the end of August 2009 that Carrickfergus College had been awarded the International Schools award, which would be presented at a ceremony in London in October 2009. In order to achieve the award we had to create a portfolio of evidence which demonstrated how our activities met the criteria required by the British Council. Many departments, pupils and staff were involved in the project, not only from Carrickfergus College but also from our partner schools across the globe.

This prestigious award is supported by the the DCSF (The Department for Children, Schools and Families) and the devolved administrations across the UK. We had previously achieved the award at intermediate level, however to achieve the full award we had to demonstrate that Carrickfergus College has an international ethos and that our curriculum provides significant opportunities for young people to engage with others from across the world.

The awarding panel were very impressed with the opportunities that pupils have at the College to take part in international activities and engage with other young people from Europe and beyond. These activities included –

The College currently have curriculum links with schools in France, Finland, Turkey, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, England, Wales and the Republic of Ireland. We have also just commenced a new Comenius Project, ‘Minds at Work’, with schools from Italy, Germany and Spain.

If you would like more information about the international dimension at Carrickfergus College contact our international coordinator, Mr McCready.
