Sports Day | June 2008
After several weeks of glorious sunshine, the Carrick College PE Department decided to pick a nice cool refreshing day to hold their sports’ day on - Wednesday 28th May 2008.
The competitors were out regardless of the lack of sun, ready for the big competitions ahead. The Junior Sports’ Day got off to a great start with the heats for the 100 and 200 metres. Other competitors were getting warmed up ready to compete in the other events such as the 800 metres, high jump, long jump, shot putt and Form Class relays. There was some fierce competition among the Year 8’s, all trying to make their mark in their first Carrick College Sports’ Day. The Year 9’s, who have had the experience of Sports’ Day before, knew how tough the competition was going to be, with a good number of pupils taking part in the field and track events. The results of their endeavours can be seen in the table below.
In the afternoon we had our Senior Sports’ Day where Years 10 and 11 pupils took part in the different events. However the sun didn’t grace us with its presence - in fact the drizzle was getting heavier! Despite the adverse weather conditions the pupils still took part, even though some of the girls were concerned about ‘frizzy’ hair!
Well done to all our competitors, as Sports’ Day simply couldn’t take place without you!
