BTEC ICT at the College

September 2009

New ICT Course in Carrick College

New for 2009 is the BTEC First Certificate Course in ICT Practitioners.  This course is being delivered to 11e Students who opted to study GCSE ICT.  The BTEC is equivalent to 2 GCSEs and is a hands on course giving our students essential work based ICT skills that will be of benefit to them when they leave school to go on to further study or enter the work force.  Students who study this course would be ideally placed to gain employment as an ICT Technician or continue to the further study at either Carrickfergus College or a local Regional College.

This is proving to be a very popular course and students who have only been doing the subject for one month are ‘buying’ into the concept.  Many of these students are now asking to stay behind after school to continue the work they developed in school to gain additional credit for their units in an effort to gain a Credit or Distinction grade in each piece of work.  A Pass is equivalent to CC at GCSE, a merit is equivalent to BB at GCSE and a distinction is equivalent to AA at GCSE.

Students study 3 units over the 2 years including hardware upgrade and installation, software installation, software upgrade and web design and management.

For further information on this course please speak to Mr Kinkaid  (skinkaid828@c2kni.net)
