'Start a Business' Programme

On Friday 16th October 2009 17 Year 11 students from the College were the guests of Carrickfergus Enterprise Agency for the 'Start a Business' Programme.
Our students were introduced to the steps involved in setting up their own business. Following the initial presention by the 'Enterprise Agency' our students split into groups with the purpose of coming up with business ideas.
Group 1: Sandwich Company "The Crusty Bap" (Deli-licious and Nutritious)
Group 2: Gnomes Gardens "Join the GG's adventures"
Group 3: Make a Smell "Smell it Your Way"
Group 4: French Fly Away "Fly French for Less"
After the initial Business names and slogans were considered the groups were asked to think about their customers - who will they be targeting their business at?
Competitors were considered and the groups had to consider those companies who would currently bein the same line of business as their company. The issue of finance was covered in detail. The idea of fixed & variable costs together with capital costs was considered. The groups needed to work out their proposed costings for their business.
The groups had to spend 15 minutes preparing a presentation about their business idea which thaey had to present to the other groups.
