Woodhall 2010

June 2010

Our high attendance award winners were treated to the annual Woodhall Residential treat this week as fourty pupils made the trip north. The attendance trip is a great reward for the schools highest attenders, giving them a chance to spend two days undertaking a variety of exciting outdoor activities.

Year 8 and 9 pupils, accompanied by Mr O'Loughlin and Miss Neely, made the trip on Monday and Tuesday, whilst the older group (Year 10 and 11) were there Wednesday and Thrusday, under the guidance of Mr Cowan and Miss Davis.

Both groups had similar activities throughout their two days. The first day involved a morning of 'Crystal Maze' challenges following by an evening orienteering expedition. In the afternoon fire making, wall climbing and archery were richly enjoyed by pupils. In between times some pupils were fortunate to squeeze in some World Cup football and Wimbledon tennis, an added bonus for 'the lads'!

The second day was an early start, with pupils undertaking an exciting ropes course including the 'leap of faith', easily accomplished by pupils and staff alike! Human Jenga was next on the agenda, pupils being elevated up onto milk crates to simulate the more realistic jenga game!

This lead to the 'main event', for some kids saving the best to last, the banana boating and kayaking. Great weather made it an amazing experience for the pupils, something which they will always remember from their time at Carrickfergus College.

Thanks must go to the Woodhall leaders - Philip, Brian, Gerry, Dermot and Aubrey, who conveyed great enthusiasm and support amongst the groups. The guys provided excellent guidance on areas such as teamwork, communication, determination and motivation, areas closely linked to the revised curriculum in school.
