Young Americans
January 2010
'Bringing an honest image of our American youth to the world.'
Four decades ago, an entertainment company called The Young Americans was founded to reflect a more positive and honest image of our America's youth through music and dance.
Today, that very idea is what makes this new group of talented singers and dancers so appealing to audiences young and old. The Young Americans range in age from 15 to 22 years old and tour our nation and the world promoting understanding through educational initiatives and theatrical performances.
The Young Americans have travelled 4 continents, performed for 6 American Presidents, Kings, Queens and Heads of State across the world.
The Young Americans - headquartered in Southern California - consist of over 200 young men and women, aged between 15 and 22 who share a passion for performing and teaching.
The Young Americans have been coming to Carrick College since 2005, as part of their UK tour.
Initially the workshops involved Carrick College pupils and local Primary Schools; but have evolved over the years to include all the schools in Carrickfergus, primary and post-primary. We currently host over 200 pupils. Many participants have been returning to workshops year after year.
The workshops aim to develop young people's love of performing arts, to present a clear and honest image of America's youth to the world and to enhance the profile of music within the educational curriculum and within the community.
We are one of only four schools in Northern Ireland to have hosted the Young Americans; and we are very proud to continue to welcome them to our school and into our homes.
