Spring Concert | 50th Anniversary

Spring Concert | 50th Anniversary

The Spring concert was one of a number of events that we as a school thought would celebrate our 50th Anniversary. The idea was to show, in musical terms, a journey through the years that would culminate in a massed choir performance.

Past pupils were invited to sing and play for us and they were a tremendous success. We had performances from some of our most inspiring and now professional musicians that included a brass ensemble of past pupils dating back to the 1970′s up to modern performances by our Choir, Chamber Choir, Cast of Grease, the College Dance Group and accomplished singer Jenna Pascoe. Just for fun we had a Staff choir who performed “Dancing Queen” by Abba and the Glee version of the Journey Classic “Don’t Stop Believin’”. And a performance by 3 of our “Dames” who treated us to a version of “There is nothing Like a Dame”. An entertaining performance by the Blues Brothers and a GCSE composition arrangement for recorder Ensemble also featured.

We were also given magnificent performances by Jenny McBride and Heidi Hair who played some amazing Irish Traditional music, truly outstanding songs from Sarah Gilmore and Ryan Moffett, a performance by the UK accordion champion Thomasena Hall and we were treated to some electrifying guitar performances by Ross Ardill.

It was an emotional evening as we welcomed back Mrs Rea and a few of the past pupils who took part in Performances of the musical “Joseph” over the years and we were delighted that so many of them came from far and wide to join Heather to celebrate the music department of Carrickfergus College.

Our thanks go to all of these performers who made the concert an incredible event and one to be proud of. Carrickfergus College has always had a great reputation for music and we were so pleased that so many of our past pupils felt that they wanted to return to perform for us either as individuals or as part of the massed choir. I did feel a tear in my eye as I looked out across the 150 or so performers on stage as we sang Heather’s arrangement of Carrickfergus. Thanks again to all of you for making it such a special night.
