GCSE Maths

The Mathematics Department enter all pupils for a modular exam. This entails hard work during the 2-year course.

There are three levels of entry:
Foundation – Grades available C – G
Higher – Grades available A* – D

The course requires 3 elements:
2 Module Papers
1 Terminal Paper

Modules 25%
January, March and June in Years 11 and 12
2 Modular Papers, each
- 30 mins non-calculator
- 30 mins calculator
Pupils can resit each module once
Best 2 modules will count
Minimum of 2 modules must be completed

Terminal Paper 50%
June Year 12
1 hour non-calculator
1 hour calculator

New GCSE Maths 2010/11

There are 2 levels of entry:

  • Foundation Level – Grades available C-G
  • Higher Level – Grades A*-E

The course consists of 3 units:

  • Unit A – 1 Hour calculator paper – 25%
  • Unit B – 1 hour non calculatior paper – 25%
  • Unit C – 1 1/2 hour calculator Foundation Paper or 2 hour calculator Higher Paper – 50%

Pupils in Year 11 sit Units A and B in November, January or June.

Pupils in Year 12 sit Unit C in June.  Pupils can resit each unit once in either Foundation or Higher Level.
